ABSTRACT: This policy talk presents Structural Challenges, the flagship publication of the Structural Analysis Section at the National Bank of Slovakia. The report advances the Bank’s analytical framework for identifying and assessing structural policies. I discuss how these policies are mapped across key economic dimensions and why their evaluation matters for sound policymaking in a small open economy within the euro area. The talk concludes with an overview of our new research initiative on intergenerational mobility in Slovakia, exploring the extent and drivers of inequality of opportunity across generations.

BIO: Vladimír Novák is a Senior Economist in the Strategic Initiatives Department at the National Bank of Slovakia and a Research Affiliate at the Faculty of Business Administration, Prague University of Economics and Business. Previously, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from CERGE-EI in Prague, Czech Republic. His research focuses on information and behavioral economics, with applications in development and political economy.
