From collocations to chatbots: How artificial intelligence is changing political language Prof. Václav Brezina a Dr. Dana Gablasová

This lecture explores how large-scale language data can be examined through the lens of corpus linguistics and emerging AI technologies. Using specialised tools such as #LancsBox, leveraging both innovative visualisations and methods such as collocation, keyword and concordance analysis, we will explore patterns in British political discourse. These approaches are contrasted with newer AI-driven techniques that are reshaping how we process and interpret language across disciplines. Drawing on the Hansard corpus, which spans over two centuries of British parliamentary debates, the lecture highlights the evolving and often fraught relationship between the UK and Europe. In doing so, it demonstrates both the enduring value of corpus-based methods and the opportunities and challenges introduced by contemporary AI.
