Abstract: Improvements in transport accessibility tend to raise house prices, but can a merely expected improvement have the same effect? To address this question, we exploit an approval of construction of the Ryfast tunnel in Norway in 2012. Ryfast was about to decrease the travel time from Strand kommune to the county capital, Stavanger, by more than 60%. Using registry data on houses repeatedly sold in pre- and post-approval period we find that Ryfast construction approval substantially increased house prices in Strand kommune.
