VR Talks No. 2 will take place at the ERRL Laboratory (room SB126) on 10 June 2026 at 16:00.

Our guest speaker, Karel Pavelka, Head of the Laboratory of Advanced Visualization Technologies, Department of Geomatics, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU), will present modern visualization technologies as tools for the preservation, documentation, and accessibility of cultural heritage. The talk will introduce a broader spectrum of technologies, with a particular focus on augmented and virtual reality, which are currently developing rapidly in the field of cultural heritage.

Topics will include:

  • Modern visualization technologies and their possible applications
  • Documentation and visualization of cultural heritage monuments
  • Accessibility and inclusion through digital technologies
  • Practical applications of virtual and augmented reality

He will showcase the following case studies:

  • Documentation and visualization of the Tomb of the Prophet Nahum in Alqosh, Iraq
  • Documentation and visualization of the Old Town Bridge Tower
  • Digitisation of museum collections and virtual museums
  • Interactive web visualizations and inclusive digital access
  • Reconstruction of the historical Vltava river basin

We will also touch upon practical, technological, and financial aspects of implementing such projects.

For business administration students and scholars, the talk offers insight into how VR and related technologies can be applied in cultural management, project coordination, communication, and public engagement.
